With a $400 cap , I’d be looking at :

Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt
Benchmade Adamas
Toor XT1 Bravo CF
Chaves Redencion Street

Of course , it depends on what exactly you’re looking for. EDC? Hard use/work knife? Just something cool to add to your collection? The knives I suggested are each under $400. Some under $300.

My favorite knife that I've carried for $400 is the Defiant 7 Servo. Actually that one is, dollar for dollar the best value to cost I've experienced.

May be too big but it carries like a small knife. Action, lock, clip and ergos are outstanding.

OP: FYI, there are a lot of $600-700+ knives that you can buy 2nd hand LNIB (or case) for $400 +/- $50.

I own bought & now own quite a few of them.

Too many to mention here but I bought most of them off of the Exchange & among the various brand names there are a Randall, Olamic, Hinderer, Arno Bernard, Krein & Shiro.

Of those you’ve listed I’d go with the Sebenza. You’ll need to experience one in your blade life journey, so may as well do it now! If it’s not for you, you can sell with a minimal loss.

The (B) option is cool, but a little gimmicky. I don’t have a Factor but when I held one I didn’t care for the ergos. Plus, I’m not totally sold on the idea of magnets in a knife. I love so many things about my Kraken but still am not sold on magnets.

(C) is a resounding “no”. It’s true for most things in life, not just knives, that quantity is no replacement for quality. More is not usually better. Not to be confused with “Two is one and one is none”.

A suggestion for (D) might be an iMamba. They start at $499, so a bit of a stretch, but to me they’re the elusive Medium Sebenza with a more polished feel.

Good luck.

Spartan SHF of a great option even if it is a bit over 400
A chaves 229… kick stop or thumb studs
TRM atom/neutron
Quiet carry Rincon
Reate Tiger

Their is a lot of nice options

I’m glad I saw this thread. I, too, am in the process of looking for a new knife (or knives) with the same price point (around $400). Good suggestions so far.

Find a preowned Spyderco Slysz Bowie.
It's a phenomenal knife in all ways and I've seen a few from the recent Knife Joy drop (where I got mine),
in new condition come up FS recently.
Had you listed the Large Sebenza, I would've said that but it's more $ if you want new.
I recently sold my small Sebenza 31 and purchased a Large 31.
The ergos are far superior, but it is a large knife.

This. I picked up an Arno Bernard iMamba with warthog tusk for around $400 on the exchange.

Also look at Cheburkov lnib.

Sebenza.

Well made knife, and if you don't like it, you can easily sell it for close to what you paid for it.

That's one of the best points. I love my two Arno Bernard iMambas, but I know I would take a hit selling them on the secondary.
