Just got my MT Ultratech ... this baby at most will just open dainty mail (All I can bare to watch). Anyone have something similar.

Pics welcome. :D

Thanks,

Ryan

You would actually let it touch PAPER???

Seriously, are you saying its too nice to abuse, or not strong enough?

Too nice to abuse of course. I think someone put one of these babies fully engaged thru a 50 gallon fuel drum.

Shoot.

Well, I have a pic, but don't know how to post it here.

Anyhow, I have a MT UT D/E partially serrated.

It is a *really* cool little toy.

I carry it often to work (suit and tie) but not really with jeans or other clothes.

This is for several reasons, most notably:

-I, like you, am afraid to use it. It is too pretty and too cool. :)
They are tough knives and will stand up to use, I've heard, but I just could not stand to scuff up that knife.

The blade is an absolute marvel of crafstmanship. I mean WOW.

-Autos are illegal in CA, so the less I carry it, the better.

-The less I carry it, the less chance of losing it or getting crud inside it. (Which is why I only really carry it with suit and tie, and I also just clip it IWB where it can't gather pocket lint.)

I do feel guilty about having such a cool toy and not really using it, but whatever...

I've also been reading here lately that the Double Edged versions are getting quite tough to find.

Didn't they also temporarily stop making the UTs? That's enough reason for me to keep mine!!! :p

And I have also heard that they can penetrate 50 gal. drums, but would the blade stand up to that sort of abuse? What would the tip look like after that?

I've got a Strider Tactical GB preordered, and THAT WILL be a user and EDC!!!

That thing was DESIGNED to be abused! I plan on keeping it with me always.

:D

Enjoy your MT, they are sweeeeeeeet knives!!!

I thought it was only limited to auto's with a blade length over 2". Must be a reason why lots of companies advertise their 2" Auto as "California Legal".

Well yeah, but what fun is a 2" blade?

Besides, no MT UT with a 2" anyway.....

But technically you are correct...

:D :D :D :D

When I read the title of the post I thought to myself, "That sounds like me, I spent $400 on my Ultratech and all I do is open my mail with it."

Imagine my surprise when that's EXACTLY what the post was!

I don't feel bad now.

Think of it this way, if you're on this forum it's not neccessarily about USE. It's more about LOVE.

Sure, our Ultratechs would probably make GREAT EDC hard-working knives, but NOBODY on this forum is going to ream us for babying them or only using them to open the Publisher's Clearing House crap we get in our Snail-mail boxes.:)

Cool post. Thanks for helping me not feel alone.

Once the new knife syndrome wears off, go use that UT6. It is a great user for medium jobs. Don't worry about it, as it has a lifetime warranty from MT. It is much more fun using a good knife than it is looking at it. :D

Same as a 4" OTF like the UT. Since you're using it to open letters, the fun's in the firing. It's not like that letter is gonna turn ninja and attack you... At least you get to carry an auto if you want to. Not even a possibility where I'm at.

drjones, Autos are NOT illegal in California (well not totally), if they some how ended up on your proptery then they are legal to possess. Why do you think Protech is still in business if they make full size autos! You can only carry an auto with a 2" blade or less.

"Every person who possesses in the passenger's or driver's area of any motor vehicle in any public place or place open to the public, carries upon his or her person, and every person who sells, offers for sale, exposes for sale, loans, transfers, or gives to any other person a switchblade knife having a blade two or more inches in length is guilty of a misdemeanor. For the purposes of this section, "switchblade knife" means a knife having the appearance of a pocketknife and includes a spring-blade knife, snap-blade knife, gravity knife or any other similar type knife, the blade or blades of which are two or more inches long and which can be released automatically by a flick of a button, pressure on the handle, flip of the wrist or other mechanical device, or is released by the weight of the blade or by any type of mechanism whatsoever."

It doesn't say anything about private proptery, just public proptery.

Check out ATKI's site and search for the history of California's knife laws.
