Been a while since I was on the Forum and I forgot my old user name so I'm starting fresh.

Just picked up a Kalinga - and AWESOME is the only word to describe it. The Omni Hunter (especially 12pt fixed blade) is a good knife, but the Kalinga is an entire level above it.

Wasn't sure if I'd like the Kalinga or not at first due to the very distinctive blade shape - but IMO it is one of the best new hunting knives out on the market for the last several years.

Way to go Buck! :)

Hey DWB, I really like that sheath!!! How does it carry on the belt? Too high, low, or just right?

I really like how these came out.

There are 4 knives total. A fixed and folder with rubber handles and 420HC blades and a fixed and folder with Brass guard, wood handles and S30V blades. They are on our website at www.buckknives.com

I like how you can choke up on the knife by putting your middle finger in front of the guard and your index finger down the back of the blade. The folder works the same way and with the slight drop in the blade from the handle it puts your wrist in a very comfortable position for skinning.

Yep...I love that choil on the Kalinga. That makes it very grip friendly. Waiting to find a place that has the fixed S30V for me as a user. I'd eat two weeks of $1 McD double cheeseburgers for that.

ME TOO!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait until the S30V models come out! I may "need" one of each!
I don't think it will replace my S30V Alpha hunter, but I bet they make a great combo!

The sheath on these is great - sits on your belt just right, easy to open and easy to get the knife out, yet very secure when snapped. At least for the nylon sheath. I haven't seen the leather one but I'm assuming it is similar.

FYI for those of you interested in the Filipino martial arts, the Kalinga handles very nicely indeed. Great balance, great slicing ability (obviously), and very nice penetrating ability on the thrust too (better than I expected). The tapered punyo is a nice touch too. I know the Kalinga wasn't designed for this, but it turns out to be pretty darn good.

DWB...

Salamat po for the report on the sheath. Sounds great.

As for "punyo"...please watch your language...this, I have been told - more than once, that is a family forum ( :D )

"punyo" = pommel ;)

.

I just got mine and I agree that it's a real honey. Scary sharp out of the box, and with a couple of licks on the Sharpmaker Ultra Fine stones, it's super-duper scary! Like, it push cuts legal pad paper three inches from the hold point.

I do wish it had a lanyard hole, but that's easily fixed.

Heck of a lot of knife of the money.
