I think Buck did a great job with the new S30V Kalinga.

And, on top of that, it's available for a street price price that's simply incredible for that quality of knife.

WOW,
I knew the Kalinga Pro was huge, but I didnt think it was that much bigger than the "old" kalinga!! I just bought a pair of them in the camo handle... I hope I dont regret not getting the S30v... that one looks really "sharp" ;)

Gary and AllenC...
Thanks for the kind words. It is a beautiful knife, and as stated by Rifon2, it's a great Buck for the buck.

Jim...
Look forward to your report on the camo ones that you are getting :)

The grind on this one is flawless. The 1986 one I got NIB wasn't as even, nice and not really discernable, but I tried to straighten it out and there is still a diff when compared to this new one.

The original pic of the trio that I posted was at a poor angle.
Perhaps this pic puts it in better perspective. Regret the poor lighting, it's late and not enough ambient light.

Here are my favorite fixed blades - 'de jour', of course:

An older Puma White Hunter, the new 408, and a great grab - the AG 192.

PS How do you make the thumbnail pix?

Very cool Goose. Like wh said, I didn't realize the new Kalinga was that much bigger than the old model. Thanks for the pics.

It comes up when I pull up this thread... it is 425kb, maybe that's the problem. Anyone else see/not see it?

I see it now... was not showing up for me last night on a slow connection. Cool pic :)

To answer your original question about thumbnails.... In Photobucket put a 'check' next to the pic you want to insert into the post. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Generate HTML and IMG code". From there you'll be able to copy "IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards" and paste into your post.

Stainz, that AG Vanguard in your picture, is the tip a little blunt or is it sharpened all they way up?

Goose.. How doe's the 408 feal in the hand.Is it like the vanguard?
or more like the original? I like the brass guard on the 408.Also
where is a good place to buy one?
Thanks
Jeff

It is different than the vanguard, it is very comfortable though! I dont have an old Kalinga to compare... Goose? :D
Just my thought but I like it because it has the finger groove in the choil, VERY comfy to hold this way!

Also

Thanks
Jeff

There's only one place to get one (IMHO)

Larry Oden ;)

kyhunt,

Sorry I didn't see your question re the S30V AG192. It comes to the same type of slightly blunted point as my standard 'Pro-Line' 192BR, although it's longer grind is more uniform, longer, and does go to the tip more so than the Pro-Line. The 408 is even nicer - for a street price nearly the same amount!

Being more of an "old school" kinda guy when it comes to Buck knives I was not particulary thrilled when I first saw the new Kalingas on the drawing board. They did not look like the Kalinga enough i thought. And they fold? Rubber handles? That was blasphemous to me!!
The first one I actually handled was the rubber handled folder and I gotta say, it goes straight to my top ten list! :D
Sturdy steel frame, nice balance, awesome action, grippy handles, and I love the Kalinga like blade shape. :)
Now all I gotta do is fill my elk tag so I can try it out proper!
