Would 4130 or 4340 be any good for a 'hawk head?

I'm new to knife making and I happen to have a fair amount of both of the materials. . .wondering if they would be any good for a 'hawk.

Thanks!!!

Yea, espically the 4340...It has more chromium and Molybdenum than 4140 does..It also has nickle.

Thanks. . .I know a good bit about metallurgy (I'm a toolmaker apprentice starting my second year of apprenticeship. . .we spend a LOT of time learning about metallurgy and heat treating), but the selection of metals is something that takes a lot of time and experience to get good at. . .and what I do is a LOT different than making knives, etc.

Thanks again. . .I was hoping that it would be a good option.

I'd hazard that the 4130 is a bit low in carbon content, but the 4340 should be good. I've made axes out of 4140, chosen because of its toughness since around here we have a lot of hardwoods. Experiment with the 4130 and see what it'll do for you.
