Guys, anyone worked with 4130 before? I've been toying with the idea of making some throwing stars and I've found a supplier of 4130 pretty cheap. After heat treating it should be medium-hard I'm thinking, which is probably what I want for throwing, right? Any thoughts?

You should be okay. A 4140 or 4150 may be a bit better for your task. But for throwing, I think you'll do fine even with 4130.

Thanks Epsilon. I'm still looking for a simpler alloy like something from the 10xx series in the right size but it's good to know 4130 will work if it has to.

1045 or 1050 would work great too. If they are austempered, you may have a virtually indestructible thrower on your hands.
