Do those of you who use 416 ss for handles heat treat them, or do you find it unnecessary. If you do, is there a forge or torch method you prefer? Thanks.

theres really not enought carbon for heat treat to make much of a improvement.

I know the instructions say to heat-treat 416 for better stain resistance but I never do and have never seen any rust even on 10 year old knives. I think its a waste of time.

Fred Carter told me he does heat treat his 416, and that it greatly reduces it's tendency to scratch easily. I think Tim Herman has started doing it too.
