Do you think that a 3 inch bali with titanium
handles could be a future possibility for BM...?

I'm sure that it could be a "bestseller"
(easier to put in a pocket, not so impressive than the 42 ... etc )

Thy already have the material ,the machines and the know-how, so why not....?

What do you think....?

I'd probably buy a pair. It could be the 32. I am in love with the 30 series already, I'd be all for it.

i'm not a big fan of three inchers (too small for my hands), but it'd be great to have a really nice knife for all those little mini-cuts I find myself making every day.

so hell yeah, i'd buy one

I thought about the same thing until I 'spent some time' with a BM35 that I picked up. Using latch drops and outside to inside openings, the little guys really come into their own! They can be lightening fast!!!

I know I will buy any bali that BM puts out on the market, it would be awesome if they came back with the SS handles though; I just love my 45!! I think a 3" Ti bali would be super light and would just fly away (especially if Clay tried his machine gun)

I would buy a pair for sure. The 42 is a little too big for daily carry. I am a big fan of the 3 inchers as they do not draw as much attention.

The biggest cost to BM of offering the 42 was tooling the TI casting for the handles. As a result, my guess is that they're not quite ready to do that again in the near future. I am told that another blade profile might be in the works, but you didn't hear that from me

Now, here's an interesting question:

If BM was to go to the expense of tooling for another type of handle, what would you prefer they invest in:

a) 3" Skeletonized to be offered anodized and plain

b) 5" Skeletonized to be offered anodized and plain

c) 4" insert to be offered with a limited selection of less troublsome insert materials (G10, a couple of Micarta colors, etc. (no exotic woods, MOP, etc. since these materials are hard to work with and require considerable skilled handwork.))

d) Something else that is reasonable for mass-production?

And remember to

a) State your answer in the form of a question.

and

b) Think W!

Oooooooo........ good one Chuck.

I'd have to go with the 5" TI skeleton handled model. (Though the 3 incher WOULD make for a nice neck knife)

5 inchers are nice, but usually sluggish when it comes to manipulating them. I think the TI handles would tame that problem nicely though.

Very interesting point. Although I would really like a 3 inch model for daily carry, I think I would first vote for:

c) 4" insert to be offered with a limited selection of less troublsome insert materials (G10, a couple of Micarta colors, etc.

That would probably be the best choice for 2 reasons.

a) it would be easiest thing for Benchmade to do first because the handle size is the same.

b) there would be different handle types to go with the different blade types that will eventually be available.

On the latter, you could mix and match and have many more balisongs to choose from, other than just a 4" skeletonized or a 3" skeletonized.

You have brought up a very good point Chuck.

As long as their casting why not a brass 42?

I think inserts would be nice but not in the 42 handle. I think the shape is not quile right for inserts.

Skeletal handle designed for a five inch blade would be my choice of the ones offered by Chuck.

Normally, I would definately say inserts, but I have yet to see a mass produced bali with an insert I like. I guess it would depend on the execution, and to do it right would probably cost a pretty penny - which I am more than willing to spend

Would Sabo want at least one of the 3" 4" and 5" in both skeletonized AND with inserts?

(tht was in the form of a question!)

Answer is YES!!

I hope BM expands greatly on their Balisong line in the coming years!

I doubt that BM will do any of these in the near future. But, if they were going to do anything, they would not do them all. The question is, which ONE would you prefer.

And furthermore, y'all are not giving your answer in the form of a question. I'll bet your not thinking W! either. What am I gonna do with you people?

What is a 4" insert balisong?
(But the only way I will think "W" is if BM comes out with all 3 sizes in both insert and sketeton and in Ti, SS and Brass to boot.)

No surprise here... a 3" is top on my wish list! Last time I talked to BM (repairing new 42's) I brought up the 3" issue. I got the impression a 3" is in the "plan" for the future. I will get 4, 2 to use and two to stash. I told the BM guy I'd get 4 of em and he laughed. Now I'm on the hook

Seems that my idea have some success.

Just kidding ! I'm sure BM think about that a long time ago .
Seems normal to me in a commercial point of view ...
Is it not possible to put a little pressure on BM...
