Well I've been reading these discussions for about a week now and finally registered to join the circle of balifreaks

. I'm happy to say that I am addicted to reading these threads, and would now like to consort with everyone here. I am the only person I know who seriously studies the arts and enjoys playing with sharp objects continuously. It has become clear to me that if I don't start communicating with others who enjoy this way of life I will not attain the deversified perspective I wish to acheive in my lifetime. I've been manipulating for some time and have only owned one bali, a BM-239, I learned the basics when I was little from my fathers best freind. He showed me how to throw a knive and flip a bali and I took it from there. Not a day goes by that I don't practice both. Enough rambling, I have recently aquired the wonderful BM-42s and wish to disassemble this beautiful balisong. I have not put much effort into doing so because I noticed that the pivot pins do not want to come out easily and that Benchmade states that this knife requires special fixtures (I'm thinking something along the lines of a steering wheel puller on the scale of small, or that they must be tapped out). Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if any of you have any suggestions or if you have already performed this opperation and might have any warnings for me. Thanks everyone

I've removed my latch for a while, and since replaced it.

I had to use a drill bit that was just smaller than the threads, as not to damage them, and tap it out with a hammer.

I've heard that the pivot pins are pressed in under several hundred pounds of pressure, but they hafe kind of a star patern that is being pressed through a round titanium hole.
It could probably be removed with similar pressure, or less.

I want to see it after re-conditioning...

I figured it would be something like a small steering wheel puller. Has anyone disassembled their 42? If so how hard was it to put the pins back in? Thanks Blade_420 for the quick response, you're quick on the draw.

Go back a ways, there is a post on this. You press them out, gently.

Please take your seats gentlemen; oh, and flip 'em if you've got 'em.

Thanks RARanny. I'm somewhat new and have not seen all of the previous posts. I'll have to go check it out.
