Hi everyone, Bali-newbie here.

I just received a BM42 a few days ago and it's the first bali I've played with in a long while. I thought that the safe handle was too loose, so I tightened up the torx screw. I can tighten it up to the point where I can't flip it but it still wobbles. Is this normal? If not, how do I fix it?

Thanks

My advice : take a cheaper bali to start flipping :)
A jaguar for instance... you can play with it, drop it, do what you want with the pins, etc.
I think you break the warranty if you touch the BM42 screw pins - right guys? Well it does not mean you shouldn't do it, but at the beginning it's not necessary I think. Try to add oil for weapons to loosen the handles.

Under Benchmade's warranty you are allowed to tighten or loosen the screws to your liking. You just aren't allowed to take out the screws and somehwo remove the blade, which I here is impossible without a press.

I have lubricated the pivots with White Lightning several times. The bite handle is fine. I tightened them up to the point where it won't wobble, then loosened it a bit. The safe handle, however, can't be tightened to where it won't wobble.

I did like you and bought a BM42, no regret. Awesome speed :)

After 6 weeks of diligent flipping I also noticed that the handles came loose. Bought a torx kit and tightened the screws. No problem, very little wobble between handles and blade.

If you tighten the safe handle to a point where it doesn´t flip but you still feel a wobble sounds weird. Mine doesn´t wobble when I tighten it that much. Maybe you should send an email to Benchmade and ask them.

I hope you get it fixed allright,

Colinz

I have just given my 42a a quick tighten. I can not get the handles to a point where I don't get some movement without the bali no longer swinging freely. If I tighen them any more, the thing won't swing! I take it some up and down movement of the handles relative to each other is normal?

BTW, I heated my bali in an oven at 150c with MT-1 on it. The results are AMAZING! . It feels so weird, silky smooth, even with the oil washed out with hot water! You have to try it!

I just fired off an email to Benchmade about this. Hopefully, they can me the official word on my little problem. :)

Anyway, I would use Militec-1 to lubricate if I knew where to get it. I live in Canada and a product with a name like Militec is hard to find (tree-hugging, peace-niks that we are)

yeah, my screws have been less than satisfactory lately, too.
no, really, my pivot screws loosen up quickly as well. i really should gt a pocket torx kit, i guess, so i can maintain it on the road, so to speak.
i guess that's the price to pay for handy, user-maintainable, adjustable pivots (i wouldn't want 'em any other way!). :)
peace.

A question on the same topic... Is it possible to make my 42 latchless, and then have the option of putting it back? Is this going to involve anything more than a torx set?
