After only 3 days of ownership, the tang pin on my new 42 came loose. Enough so that when it slides a little too far to one side, the knife does not close completely in the open position. I'll be sending it back into benchmade for warranty work, even after waiting over 2 months for it to get shipped here.

I posted to see if this has happened to anyone else. I was more suprised than angry when I first noticed it. I didn't even know the pin was seperate from the blade. Oh well.

I had one do this myself. BM replaced it quickly. There have been several reports. I suspect that BM had a bad lot. Perhaps the machine that sets those pins got misadjusted or something. Anyway, just send it in and they'll take care of you toot sweet.

Mine came loose pretty quick too, and sometimes I kinda screw it back in to tighten things up againwhich seems to work for a few minutes (which is odd becuase it isn't threaded) I don't think it is messed up enough for me to part with it for a few weeks to get fixed especially since my backup (a bear) basically disintergrated recently.

I have a 42-S and a 42-AS with different tang pins. What shape was your loss ones? My "AS" has a rounded pin, the "A" just has a chopped of looking one. I can even see machine marks on it real good. You never know, there might be a conection here!

Well, I already sent it in, but I remember the pin being pretty much squared off. There's a tiny bevel, but it is by no means rounded. Is it supposed to be?

My BM 42's tang pin is rounded, my 30S is just a cylinder, my 45SHD is just a cylinder and my 45 2nd is 2 cylinders
