I'm looking at a wood-handled chinese made Buck slipjoint, because I prefer wood handles to the black plastic on the USA made.

I was wondering how the steel and heat treat were on these. Is the HT done at a different location than normal, and if so how would it compare to a 110's HT? Or is it all done the same, no noticable difference? I'm very happy with the steel on my 110 so I'm hoping it's on par with it.

much as i hate to admite it
i was given a 4en buck
had china on it
well it went into the tackel box
it did get used and i was impressed
with the quality of it,,
still dont like it but if i got to loose one off the peir or boat
rather it then a USA one,,,
held an edge under use almost as well as a old 440
was easy to sharpen and fresson up with a steel
great splinter picker, cut the line and small bate knife

I picked one up at walmart for under 20 dollars and so far it seems to be on par with any 420 hc made in usa, buck makes a quality product and would not let their name on inferior junk.lol:rolleyes:  :D

They are great, I've been using them since they came out and have been very impressed with them. The Buck 370 series is maybe the best bang for the buck (nice pun :D ), in pocketknives out there.

I dont know about those models but I have been carrying my Imported Mayo (179) and beating the crap out of it for a year now. no problems yet.
Just as sharp as my 110's.

I have'nt yet spent the money on the TNT MAYO, but I would like to upgrade.
Just not sure if i can spend that to use
I dinged the blade on my 110 this past weekend cutting the wing bones of a canadian goose ( field dressing)
I havent done that to my Mayo import yet...
I would try to stay USA though... The prices of those 2 models are close.

About 10 years ago, I bought 3 knives and my Wife looked at them, one was a Buck David Yellowhorse Trapper with a beautiful handle, a Case stockman with wood handles and a Buck Lite. My Wife approved of the first 2 knives but asked me why I bought the last knife. I said, "Well it is light, good for carrying or putting in a tool box, well made, good steel and it is a Buck". She said "Well if it was a buck, why didn't you buy more?". :)

I have one of the 373, which is a stockman. mine is one of the early Chinese one's and has 440C blades. Good quality overall.

I also have a 473 Fixed Blade, which has the 420 blade. I have been carrying that a bit, and not had a problem with the steel. The 473 is also Chiense FYI.

Dave,
Turkey is better :D
They tend to be tough. (geese) slice them real thin and fry 'em or marinate in *secret* recipe to remove the Gamey flavor. Grill until desired.
110 isn't broke just has a couple dings in the edge thats all, Lansky will take em right out! Note to self: Shouldnt use 110 to chop wing bones:eek:
Maybe someday that one will be a blade upgrade :D
