I just bought a blade made out of 420V Steel. Does anyone know about this steel? Do you think it's any good? Any comments?

Who made the knife? What's it called? What's it like?

I understand this 420V stuff is supposed to be as good as it gets when it comes to wear-resistance.

Very sharp, very tough, very wear resistant. The edge holding is terrific for a stainless steel, very clean and hard but not brittle. Sorry, this is on the Darrel Ralph Apogee, and the grind lines are a wonder to behold. I haven’t come across a stain or rust issue, but I have been fanatical about keeping the blade clean. Not terribly tough to sharpen, but the recurve doesn’t help either.

So, what did you get?

Thanks for answering my questions regarding 420V. The blade I purchased is a Kit Carson, Model 4, Clip Point, Folder. Let me tell you , this is an INCREDIBLE knife! (And that's an understatement). I have wanted one ever since reading about Kit and his blades in a knife magazine. Kit recently let me know he has a 2 year waiting list for his Model 4's, and I sure didn't want to wait 2 years, so I bought the knife from Les Robertson, of Robertson's Custom Cutlery. He is a dealer in custom knives. If you are looking for a particular custom blade, but don't want to wait for years, check him out: www.robertsoncustomcutlery.com He's a real nice guy, and doesn't mark up his knives too much. He had a table at the Florida Knifemaker's Assoc. Show that I just attended.
I was able to look at and hold some of the finest custom folders and fixed blades, made today. After the Carson Model 4, my other favorites that I checked out were an Apogee and a Kasper Fighting Folder by Pat Crawford. The KFF was absolutely awesome! I more than highly, recommend any one of these 3 folders.
Thanks again, and Happy trails...

I recently received a large Model 4 clip point from Kit in Talonite. Great knife!

Great choice Hansen. The Model 4 is great. You can't beat Kit's workmanship.

Hansen,

I have only one blade with CPM 420v and I don't care for it because it takes too long to sharpen...guess I'm too used to carbon steels! It does seem to hold a good edge!
