So, I've been looking for a new lightweight EDC and I've managed to locate 444's and 424's online. I owned a couple of 444's and I was a fan, but they ended up being given away. I've never had a chance to handle a 424, so I'm curious how it compares to the 444. I think they both use the same blade, so I guess I mainly want to know how the handles compare as far as strength, thickness, and how well they hold up to daily use.

I have both but have not carried them enough to answer your exact question. But I will say that I like the ergonomics of the 444 far better than the 424. The 484 might be one to consider also it is still in production.

I have all 3 of them... I use my 424 1st generation more... I just like the 1st gen. Bucklites more... Just like the 422s and the 426s...

I own a 444. Don't own a 424. To me, the 424 looks about as classy as a plastic handled knife can get. Looks less bulky than the 444, too.
