440 Denier nylon ??

Well, denier is a measure of thread count density, and the industry standard for high quality Cordura nylon motorcycle gear is 500 denier thread count. That is enough to offer meaningful abrasion protection to a rider in an unscheduled dismount if the stitching is good. I have a 500 denier Aerostich riding suit, which has a great reputation for holding up well in a crash, so I'd say 440 more than tough enough for a day pack.

I have a 1000 denier Cordura messenger bag, but I think that would be way too stiff and inflexible for a pack, unless you are planning to load it very heavily.
