440 Vanadium Steel

Are you talking about 440V (also know as S60V)?

Which knife with this steel are you referring to?
 
440V is CPM S60V.

It's not used much anymore as it had chipping issues when taken to a normal 60 HRC, so the hardness had to be lowered to the 58 HRC range.

CPM S90V (420V) replaced CPM S60V as it didn't have those issues, the common mistake and completely wrong information was that CPM S30V replaced CPM S60V, it was CPM S90V that was the replacement.

Edge retention was good even at 58 HRC though so there is nothing wrong with the steel.
