What are your thoughts on 440A as a blade steel?
Toughness.
Hardness.
Edge holding.
 
In all fairness it is a crappy blade steel, but it is tough. That's why generic chinese kitchen knives are made out of it, because it doesn't matter if it holds and edge or bends, as long as it doesn't break on them. I would never use it, you should at least upgrade to 440c.
 
toughness - good , edgeholding - decent if its tempered good.,,VWB.
 
On the other hand, it might be better than 440C for a diver's knife where the added corrosion resistance outweighs edge holding.
