Why is it 440B is somewhat rare in blade material choice, relatively speaking? I cannot name even one knife made of it.

From what I understand AUS8 is fairly equivalent to 440B, which is quite common (Cold Steel, CRKT use this stuff a lot). Not sure why that is.

But why AUS-8, rather than 440B? 440A and 440C are faily common, but not 440B.
AUS8 is Japans version of 440C. AUS6 is Japans version of 440A.

I believe there were some knives made by the Spanish company (?Aitor) that used 440b.Form what I've heard its compairable to AUS8.Razorback is right Randall used 440B for his stainless but I think he forged it.

It might just be that AUS-8 is easier to find/slightly cheaper than 440B, so that's used instead.

IIRC Lone Wolf Knoves use it in their Loveless knives which are Made in Italy. I guess if its good enough for Loveless it must be OK.

Many retailers list Aitor's choice of steel as 440C (or a modification of it). I couldn't find any definite information on the company's homepage, which apparently is not updated very often.

I do believe Joker of Spain uses 440B.
