There is an interesting article in the August issue of Knives Illustrated magazine called "A First Knife to Remember" in which the author makes a kit knife with his son. He describes it as the "Silver Fox kit from Jantz Supply" and "is made from 440C stainless".
This is a great looking knife and the article peaked my interest, so I got out my Jantz catalogue to have a look and it is as the author described it (made from 440C).
While looking through the magazine I came across an add from Sheffield Knifemakers Supply (pg. 7) that had the same knife as well as others but described them as being 6A stainless steel. Many of the knives in the add are also sold in the Jantz catalogue but described as 440C. I understand that there is quite a difference between 6A and 440C.
So, which is it, 6A or 440C? Anyone know?
