Im on the verge of purchasing an entrek 11 bravo and it has some positive reviews and there are those people that say 440c is like an AUS8.

can anyone tell me how would you compare 440c against the 10xx series? my though is if it is a atleast as tough as 1095 or has the same as edge holding it will be more than enough for me.

440C is a good steel for most uses, provided that it has been properly heat treated (the case for just about any steel).

It was the primo steel for awhile, I think Benchmade still has some offerings that use it. Entrek is a respected company, you should be G2G.

Its not as tough as 1095 but a 1/4 inch thick piece of it like Ray uses on that model should be more than enough for anything you would use a knife for. Oh and Rays heat treat of 440C is as good as it gets. Oh and it will holds its edge a good bit longer than 1095 will.

do you have any experience with ray ennis's knives? my fallknivens tend to chip. would 440c do the same?

I have heard that 440C compares to AUS10, with slightly less edge retention. Plenty of people swear by it; it may not be a modern "super steel" but I have only heard good things - as long as its treated properly.

I have not used one but I have held a Javalina and it felt amazing in hand, had perfect fit and finish, and if I would have had enough money in my wallet at the time would have gone home with me.
