I have a stick tang I ground that has been heat treated and I've need to know if the tang can be heated and bent to match a piece of stag I have? Where I need to bend it a little will not affect the blade any, but I've never tried to bend 440C, heat treated or otherwise. Thanks.

tom...the easier (i was going to put wiser but thats bs) way is to just cut off the tang to as short as you dare.....weld something on there that you can bend and go for it....or weld some all thread to the short tang and put it on with a butt cap.

Tom m. stateside do you have to weld thread stock on the end of the tang to mount the pommel? Is this the Bowie that you have been working on?

No George, this isn't the Bowie, it's a drop point that I'm working on. I have a really good looking piece of stag that I came across after the blade was heat treated and I thought about using it. I think I'll finish the knife off the way I originally planed and save the piece of stag for another knife. I appreciate the suggestions everybody. Thanks.

Welding to hardened steel is not recomended. I will break along the weld affected zone.
If you heat and bend you will have better luck. Heat thoughly and bend slowly, allow to cool in still air. Use some type of heat sink to prevent heating the blade.
