440c

Newbie question...
I just picked up 3' of 440C for $16.00, it has blue paint on the end. Is it Stainlees Steel?

Certainly sounds like you came across a good deal. I use 440C all the time, it is a great knife blade steel. What thickness and width is it. I pay about $40 for a six foot long piece that is 1/8" x 1 1/2". Good grinding steel, but it don't like to be forged.

It's 1 1/2 X 1/8 What hollow grond blade styles would be good for it?
