440c?

Who here has experience with 440C? I'm interested in the new Case straight razors, but only if they are good users. I've never owned a knife with this steel, so I have no personal knowledge of it.

Doe anyone know the kind of edge 440C can take? If it can take an edge like AUS-8 or VG-10, then I may just have to buy one of these razors.

I've had some 440C knives, Buck and Boker, I think it's a great steel and takes and holds a good edge, some 30 years ago 440C was tops for custom makers. I also have a Gerber in AUS8 and a Spyderco in VG10 and do think that 440C is in the same league.

The characteristics of 440C and AUS-8 are reasonably similar so that should put it in the ballpark of your experience. Take care.

Can you post a link to the razors you are inquiring about?

Usually people prefer the high carbon steel (non-stainless) straight razors as they are easier to maintain with a strop (less stropping is usually required compared to a stainless razor)
