I dont know, maybe im crazy and I know this has probably been brought up plenty of time but I have both models in pe and I like the 440 better. Yeah its a little harder to sharpen, but it just seems to hold its edge a little better. Please someone tell me Im not crazy.

My Military 440V has served just fine. I never felt the need to buy the S30V blade. The only problem I've encountered was one bad instance of edge-chipping, but the circumstances were such (dirt and rocks) that I think an S30V blade would have suffered as badly.

I believe Spyderco's own technical testing showed that S30v held an edge a fraction longer than 440v. I must admit that it "feels" odd when we have come to believe that the harder a steel is to sharpen, the longer it holds an edge, but I guess like ever rule there are exceptions.

Even if the edge holding were exactly the same, I would say it is worth going for S30v, just for the ease of sharpening. Also after compairing the two I noticed ther were some other very slight differences in the handle that made the newer S30v model worth getting.

A bit of topic, but I received my first folder and first Spyderco only a few weeks ago - a S30V Military. I've been wearing it constantly ever since. I'm amazed at its simplicity, low weight, sharpness, and effectiveness for such a low price. I do have another folder on its way to me (a Delica II) just to see what a smaller Spyderco is like. I can't quite figure out yet if the Military will ruin my desire to buy any more folders (when you have something this good, is it worth buying anything else), or has wet my appetite for folders even more to see if other folders are this good.

I'd take S30V over 440V anytime. It just has this stupid burr that won't quite go away when I sharpened on 440V
