440V Rust Question.

I've recently (well, a month ago) adopted a Gunting as my EDC, and since the day I got it, I've had /minor/ rust problems. (Let me be quick to point out that even if I can't fix these problems, I'll continue carrying this knife; absolutely love it, /especially/ the steel.)

Basically, out of the box, I had light flecks of surface rust, clustered together. Surface enough that I could get them off just by rubbing hard.

Since then, I've tried a tuf-cloth, flitz, coating it with plain old lube (a couple of kinds). Never gotten it wet, and it's carried clipped to my pocket, so I shouldn't have perspiration issues.

It's /just/ surface rust, but it still nags at me. Anyone know if there's a way around this problem?

use WD40 on mine, and wear it biking all the time (max sweat) and no probs - go figure.....

Depends on what you mean by "close to." If you mean "on the blade..."

No, seriously, not noticably. A lot is below the ramp, like over the writing; some is further up the blade, but still on the flat; some is on the edge itself, but just very minimally. Hasn't been any on the ground area yet, but I've had patches of it just about everywhere else.

Okay, real time check: if I open the blade halfway, so it's at a ninety degree angle to the handle, I've got rust on the blade between the hole and the handle, on both sides. Also got a lot on the kick, if that's what it's called; the part below the edge on the blade that's not sharpened. A dot or two on the edge, and I /think/ there's some on the inside of the Spyderhole, but I don't care about that. That's probably all of it, but I'm not too sure; it's dark in here.

Last time I checked was yesterday afternoon, and I got rid of all the rust I could see then.

most of the high end steel types are very sensitive to sweat (containing some really aggresive asids). Spots on the surface of the blade will protrude whereever your fingers may have touched the blade.

The 440V is, as I´ve experienced, very sensitive to sweat! Water comes not even close!! The Marine Cloth from Sentry Solutions should be able to stop the rusting problem. My advice; wipe and clean the blade thoroughly after usage, use the Marine Cloth and check it reguraly.

Regards!
