I absolutely love the designs of the native and the 'lil temperence, but I have reservations about the steel. Is it hard to sharpen? This is my main concern because I suck at sharpening despite years of pracice. Any help on this matter would be greatly apreciated!

It's hard to sharpen, no doubt about it. Diamond hones would definately help.

The 440V on the Spyderco's are not as hard to sharpen as 440V by some other manufacturers. It's been tempered to be slightly softer for ease of sharpening. This helps greatly for something like the fully serrated Native.

I don't think its going to be that hard to sharpen with the right tool (the right tool been the 204 sharpmaker).

thanks guys, I'll end up buying them no matter what because I like the design so much.

Well if u do have any troubles, send em back to spyderco for a sharpening. But just remeber, the cost of sending em back can mount if u send it back a few times so like BOK said, get a 204.

FWIW, (I'm not that great at sharpening either) but I love the 440V FRN Native. I definitely cannot get an edge as fine as my VG-10 blades, but I have to re-sharpen my VG-10 blades more frequently. My Native is more of a heavy duty and the edge stands up to lots of harder use(like cutting off small branches etc.) Native is a great design and super fast to deploy.

what is FWIW? for that matter, what is IMHO and IMO? there should be a glossary of all these phrases somewhere!

Rorschach,

I don't actually have anything to add to this thread. Just wanted to mention that I love your avatar.

You just put Watchmen on my "to reread" list ;)

I find that the secret in sharpening this steel is....to not let it go dull.;) My Millie gets touched up about every two to three days, depending on the use.

And FYI, getting the diamond triangles would be wise when sharpening the 440V.

Rorschach,

Looks neat. I just have to refrain from reading the whole thing right now without the book ;)

I remember finding a similar "annotated Sandman" site that was enlightening...

Most ofmy graphic novels have been neglected for too long. Guess I'm not gonna get much sleeping done for a while! :D

Aaaanyhoo, this is prolly not the best forum for an alternative comics discussion. If you have anything else to add, please feel free to email me at grover_cephas@hotmail.com

Be seeing you.
