44C steel in new Buck/Mayo knives?

It is a guess, but it may not be 440C from Crucible since it is expensive to ship the steel from the U.S. to China. It could be the Japanese Acuto 440 product which would be cheaper to ship. That doesn't make it bad, by the way. It also may be that the Chinese are making a steel that they call 440C. That may be bad. I don't know that this is true. It just seems strange that a manufacturer would ship Crucible 440C to China. In other words all 440C's are not necessarily the same. As I said, it is a guess. I just thought I would clarify. The new Mayos do have pretty good fit and finish for Chinese made knives, I'm sorry to say.

It's probably the same 440C that's found in the Smith & Wesson knives. Both the S&W and Bucks in 440C are made in China.

wow, buck has a lot of new knives....a lot of Mayo-designed ones (some don't look like they should have his name on them....), and a lot of new spring assisted ones...

Buck is also using 440C on their chinese made slipjoint line, and from personal use I can say it's done very well. It came razor sharp out of the box, and it has held up very well under use.

Thanks for all the replies. The new buck/mayo knives look like a really good deal. The TNT is still the nicest but it's out of my price range.
