10 inch blade from 47 willys leaf spring, oak or chestnut scales made from the willys body mounts forge finish/natural flats with 220 belt finish bevels. Edge quenchedwilly handle 2.jpgwilly handle.jpgwilly knife 2.jpgwilly knife 3.jpgwilly knife.jpg

ha, he was actually saving the willys and had to replace some things, so I made a commemorative knife for him

I like it! I've often contemplated making a Jeep knife much like it.
So the scales were made from the wood in the hat channels under the body? I'm surprised there was wood left. Most of the Jeeps I've helped restore, it's usually rotted away and half the hat channel is rusted to nothing. Fun stuff!

That wood didn't look like wood when I got it, wasn't sure if it would grind clean or not. Out of three usable sized pieces left from the teardown

That sounds more like it. :D They turned out great.

This just adds fuel to the fire for a similar build I have in mind.
Btw - If your friend needs some parts, send me a message. I know people and I have a bit of a stash of my own. ;)

Its a complete build now, got a mix of everything and a buick v6, he was cleaning out his garage and I snagged some materials

Looks great! It also brought back lots of good memories for me. I learned to drive in the early seventies in a black and white zebra striped, 1947 Willys.

That's just plain awesome! Love me a flat fender and a blade made out of pieces from one is too cool!

You definitely should.
Hey - Just realized that you're just a little West of Bloomington. Glad to see some more Hoosiers around.

Yup trying to get Indiana more involved in knives, actually the most knife friendly state as laws go and next to no knife events here.

Thanks Nick, This was a fun knife to make between orders, I made it for a friend in trade for help building my new shop, now I need to make about five more trade for work knives"LOL"

nice work - love the idea of repurposing the "dead" parts from the rebuild.
