48 star flag

This might be the wrong forum, but here we go.
I bought a 48 star American flag today; it has gold fringes on it, and it's got a lot of stains on it. I was wondering what information you could give me, specifically what the fringes mean. Thanks a lot.

It would be more of a curiosity if it had 49 stars.

The US had a 48-star flag for quite a few years. I think the 49-star was only official for 1 year.

IIRC, my family had a 48 star flag. I don't think we bought a 49-star, but I know we bought a 50-star.

I still have an original 48 star flag in the original packaging .Don't know the size .Anyone want it ?
 
No , I don't live that far north. I just thought someone might want it for a collection.
