Does anyone know....

At a listed retail of $600, what are the dealers (such as 1SKS) going to charge? Should one go to Benchmade for this piece or wait for it to hit dealers?

just a point of deduction.. by the book each LISCENCED dealer will only be allowed to order 2 (I doubt it will be the case) and given BM's "feelings" they put priority to storefronts and not internet dealers (thus was the result pf my last hunt for a numbered 42 - boy that was a rush! :) )

Some of the dealers I have spoken with have said, they will only carry the 49-01 by special order by the customer. That is, if they have no customers who order in advance, they will not have a 49-01 just for stock or display. This is not all dealers, but only some I have talked with.

I feel for you Tony, but i didnt make friends with any local dealer, and have actually never even met the guy. i was just trying to give you all a feel for what you may actually be paying. I am most certainly not recieving any kind of "special discount."

FYI - 1SKS just became an authorized Benchmade dealer on Thursday. We ordered 2 of each of the new models of the bali's but don't have solid prices on them yet. If we're limited to 2 of each, then that's all we'll get. If not, I'll up my orders for those who want them.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin :)...nice of you to let us know!

Ok, I just got off the phone with our Benchmade Rep - he said he wasn't aware of any limits on the new Balisongs other than that they are being made in limited numbers... 500 of each max. Some are only having 250 made... so, I upped our orders.

Prices will be posted when possible.

Kevin

Wait, i'm confussed...are you talking about the 49-01 Kevin? What happened to the run of 100?

Like I said in an earlier post, These aren't custom balis, but production...

How hard is it to make another 100?
Not very.

For a production model, I still think that $600.00 is way too much.

How about all of you that thought you were one of the lucky bastards that were able to slip your order in for one of the only 100 made?

It's just like the hype put out on the introduction of this fine knife.

Just a little snippet at a time to get you all drawn into it, and break out your checkbooks.

Still, I guess it's nice that maybe even some poor slob like myself might even get a chance to get one eventually.

(I guess I was just sore that I don't have big time cash to lay down for this right now, and with only 100 made, I would never get a chance.)

Your logic certainly makes sence blade_420, but there are still lots of "production" peices only made in very limited runs...I want to know the details on this asap because allthough i have mine reserved, i may change my mind about spending that kind of money if i find out there are going to be 500 floating around in a year and not just 100...this is actually a bit frustrating:rolleyes:

As to why it cost $600, my best guess is that for the model 49's, BM has to build a
new interframe handle set, and set up for handle inserts, and program the CNC
machine for the Kris blade. As with any first issue of anything, the initial cost is going
to be higher to offset the investment made in the machinary. Economics dictate that
as return on investment increases on the machinary, future items made by those
machines can be produced at a lower. Which should translate to lower costing model
49's in the future. Which should happen as the Kris has traditionally been BM's
highest cost model.

If that is true, then why did I get my NUMBERED 42's for $135.00 at my local knife shop, and now they have the 42, 43 and 47 (not numbered) for $147.95.

Aren't the prices supposed to be higher at inital startup, and get lower as time goes on? (IE: BM recoups their losses for the machinery, and then it's just profit less materials and labor?)

If all you are happy with having an -01 on your blade, (but not sequential numbers), then fine.

Does that make the same knife with an -02 worth less, or more?

Maybe BM will come out with one with an asterisk on it (*), and sell it for $1200.00. If they made a secret out of it and sold them only to the select few that could figure out the secret phone number to call...

I still think that they have taken a few classes in applied psycology, and together with a few propaganda techniques, they will have everyone rolling over and begging to get our hands on one.

Blade_420, i think you're mistaken about the numbers. They will all have "01" because that is there model number. The upcoming knives with a "02" will have a different blade shape, hence a different model number. The way i understand it, the "49" part will refer to all the upcoming limited edition peices, and each new variation will get a new number tagged on the end...ie. "01" for the kris, "02" for the next and so on. My guess is Tony is correct that there will in fact only be 100 of each, but i was still a little ratteled when Kevin suggested otherwise. You know how these things go, I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Now what i havnt figured out is whether or not the 100 49-01's (if thats how they do it) will be numbered or not. i know they said they wont really be serialized in the same way that the SPL's were, but i figure they still might do a XXX/100 on there somewhere, sorta like introduction runs of the 43 and 47...hem???

By the way, Tonyccw,

I'm not trying to be a butt-wipe about this.

It just comes naturally...:D

I am at least 1/2 playing devils advocate.

I am very happy and excited that BM hasn't forgotten all us bali freaks.
I am excited that there is a bali that is thick bladed, with stainless handles. Inserts is a plus.

I am disapointed that the price is unreasonable.
I am disapointed with the marketing techniques that BM has decided to use. (IE: selling all of the special balis before they have even released the picture, and not letting it be a fair race.)

It's like if Mike Turber kept asking what we would all like to see in a bali, and then when he finally get's it all together, telling us that it's just too bad, because he's already sold them all to some buyer in New Zeland.

I know that you, I, and everyone else REALLY wants BM to keep making balis, but the whole way they have handled the 49-spl and 49-01 has left me with a sour taste in my mouth.
