I figured there would be more discussion on the upcoming 490 Amicus. It seems like it will be a great EDC, although a litte pricey with the fancy steel.

The composite Patrol auto looks neat too. I haven't had a D2 blade yet.

I hadn't seen that one before. The steel is great, of course, but nothing else about it appeals to me. I don't care for aluminum scales and don't really see the need for a flipper on an Axis lock knife. I'll be passing on this one.

I've got one pre-ordered. Hands down my most anticipated knife this year. I love my 477-1, and this looks to be more of the same greatness. Can't wait until mine arrives.

I handled the Amicus at SHOT Show. It's a really nice knife. I have the original 470 Emissary (grey) and I have been carrying that for a few years now as my office EDC (I wear suit/dress pants). The Axis-Assist flipper is a solid design and the stud-less blade looks cleaner.

I am interested in the Amicus, but am actually more interested in getting the new grey G10 Griptilian. Assisted openers don't have the same appeal to me, anymore.

Good to know. I work in an office and the size/style really hits home for me. I agree on the assisted part, but I reckon it may be necessary with such a short flipper.

Amicus arrived in the mail today and I am stoked. A/O folders are not usually my thing but the assisted opening speed is not so extreme as to make it jump in hand at all and the safety is placed so as to facilitate a fluid opening. F&F is excellent. Love the smooth aluminum texture; it feels the way a 940 does after a couple of years.

It has been a little while since a new arrival felt so exciting.:thumbup:

I could not agree more! The Amicus has been, without a doubt, the highlight of my new acquisitions this year. I don't normally get "pre needed replacements" but I just might here.

I really didn't think an assisted flipper would kick the Mini Dejavoo off it's perch as my favourite Benchmade but this has and we are way past the honeymoon period.

I purchased the 490 from the benchmade factory in Oregon City at the beginning of the summer and I couldn't be happier with it. It's a phenomenal, highly functional knife. It actually has geometry that is designed to cut! Which is a nice change from most knives from any company. And the knife is very well built and holds up well to a variety of outdoor tasks. It actually makes a great fishing knife. Because of the lean geometry, it actually sharpens to a scary edge extremely easily. The only dissapointment I have is the up and down play. Hopefully I can stop by benchmade the next time I am on leave and get it fixed. Otherwise, it's amazing!

Definitely one of my favorite knives. Wanted an assisted flipper and this is great. Fit and finish is perfect. The action of the assist is flawless. My only minor complaint is that the smooth aluminum handle is a little slippery. Not really enough to work me as the shape makes it very easy to maintain a strong hold. Wish they would have put some texture on it.

Amicus means friend in Latin.
The Amicus has no liners and no washers.
One of The axis bar ends must be unscrewed from the axis bar in order to remove one of the scales

Seriously stoked on this folder. I almost bought a backup today but my lady suggested I wait for an LE with different anodized aluminum. Never occurred to me. Looks like she recognizes the knife industry better than I do :o

Anyone have a pic of the knife closed with the flipper sticking out? Curious to see how far it protrudes.

I really wish they had made it with traditional knife construction with liners and scales. I'm really, really not a fan of aluminum but love everything else about it. Well, I haven't handled one yet so that is based on the design. Not sure how I feel about the assist but probably won't mind it. Though I would be fine with it being a manual flipper.

Need to find one I can handle and see if the pros outweigh the cons for me.

You need a special tool used here at the factory. I do not recommend taking this knife apart yourself.

I realize this is an old post but I still wanted to share just Incase someone comes across looking. This is my amicus. I’m not a fan of the stainless hardware so I’ve anodized Elmore everything to make it lower key. I’m pretty happy with the knife for a gentleman’s folder application and it’s very easy to disassemble and reassemble.
