498's

[Lower forty boy]

Just received a 498 and a little confused are all the california series Hall marked etc and do they all have the hammered butts etc. mine seems to have some kind of mooded butt cap and guard and the handle has the mold seams on the top and bottom the blade says shrade U.S.A. 498 2 lines and it's shiney the blade in the picture looked more patinad it looks like stainless to me Help

I hate to seem dense but am I right to assume that not all 498's are the Bench made nifty ones that they were only made in certain years I need to get this right because I am considering sending this knife back I usualy live with my mistakes but I had my heart set on a bench made and it sure don't look like any of the pictures I'm seeing not to mention the price

I've never heard of a California series anything as far as Schrade is concerned. Do you have a picture or a link to a picture? That would help a LOT.
