Does anyone know if the 498 and the 497 do / can use the same sheath? or is there a slight difference?

I currently have a 498 and a 499 and the 499 sheath is shorter than the 498 sheath.

Hi Flint --

An amazing reference site for Schrade USA curated by forum member Lrv
http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/index.html

Scroll down and there's a link to the 49'ers Series
http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/49ers/index.htm

In the group shot, top right, the 2 sheaths look to possibly be slightly different lengths?
Another item of interest is the dark and light coloring of the sheaths displayed

Something in my dusty brain tells me these pics were contributed by forum member Larry303
Most of what Larry displays from his amazing collection  is brand new or as new so the dark/light would be 'factory issued'

A search of this forum will bring up more 49'ers info and IIRC the same pics from Larry303

Thanks! yes, I've spent lots of time looking at that site and have seen the very nice 49ers pictures (an am intrigued by the green handled 498 - but that's a different matter).

It is not clear in the picture (at least to me) which sheaths go with which knives.

Like I said, I have a 498 and a 499. The 498 blade is both wider and longer than the 499 blade, and correspondingly, the 498 sheath is larger than the 499 sheath.

I was kind of suspicious though that the 498 and the 497 might use the same sheath - and that the 491 and the 499 might also use the same sheath - as the 497/8 have larger blades than the 491/9

i didn't know if anyone happened to have all four and could verify or refute this.

I bought a 498 a little over a year ago. The knife cleaned up nicely but the sheath was a wreck. I t had cuts where the point had gone thru the side. I tried to glue the edges together and dye it but it still didn't look very good. I'm sure there are many sheath makers on this forum but a fellow at Turkey Chasers made a almost exact duplicate of the Schrade sheath except heavier and with welts on both sides to protect from blade cuts.
