Anyone experience this with their 4MAX? I believe it to be rust. No rust anywhere else on the knife. I haven’t taken it apart. Haven’t decided what to do yet.
A little disconcerting.

If that is rust, it my recur after it is cleaned. I would send it back for a replacement part.

That is definitely rust:(

havent seen that on mine yet............. but spyderco, I think, had a model where the stop pin was a carbon steel and would discolor/rust. seemed harmless, if I remember right, but annoying.

curious you sweating and carrying a lot or washing knife a lot, live in high humidity zone, coastal area, etc....curious on what environmental effects made it rust faster. thanks.

Thought it would be stainless(although it is stain(less) depending on the constituents). Italian or American?

Definitely sweating but hasn’t been carried much so far. Hasn’t been washed. Live in Texas so it’s humid and hot as hell, but none of my other folders are rusting anywhere.

Yes, on a knife like this, it should be stainless.
It is the Italian version.
If it’s going to do this, I don’t want it.
I’ll contact CS. Could be just a fluke.

The rep is on here all the time but contacting them is a good idea, keep us posted.

Contact them. From my experience their pretty easy going. They might just send you out a new pin.

We have not seen this before but can definitely see why it is doing that, with the heat/humidity. Friendly reminder to maintenance your knives folks. Just like a car.

OP, please email me so we can chat. cameron@coldsteel.com

Moisture can accumulate on steel going from cold (inside AC) areas to hot (outside) areas. The same is true when going from cold outside areas to warm inside areas. This is one of the reasons why I hesitate on carrying my non-stainless knives during the winter (Midwest).
