Hey guys,

You know I love the oldies, so any time I see an inverted stamp I take notice. Picked up this 4th version 2nd variation last week on the bay for what I feel was a purdy good price and it got here today:thumbup: The seller didnt supply good pics but with what he had I figgered it would spa up nicely.

It came in, in pretty much the shape I expected. Bolsters in good condition with a few minor scratches that the spa will take right out and the wood is in very good condition and will be mint after spa. The blade scratches were the only real noticible issue but they will buff right out. Here are pics upon arrival. Please take note to see if you think there is some belly blade loss. I cant be sure but think there is.

Will show the final product after it comes back from a vacation in Post Falls:D:thumbup:

Thanks for looking

Fritz

Thats gonna be a nice one after its vacation to Idaho Fritz...

If there is any blade loss in the belly, I don't think its very much, but I'm definitely no expert. IIRC, looking at the older ones, the blades seem to have a slightly different design than the later versions.

Maybe its just my eyes

Almost forgot... Why did Buck use the inverted stamping on the earlier knives , and why was the decision made to change it?

Thanks Mike, Now that I look at the pics I put up, it doesnt look as much like blade loss as when I hold it in front of me. But I agree, if there is, it isnt much-I havent checked it against my 3rd 8th which is the closest I have to it as a reference, or against 3 liner 5thvar 3rd var. I have no idea why they changed to a tip up tang stamp.
Ima, she's got a brass liner . Good find ! DM

Thanks David, by another ebay pic that I didnt post here, it looked like brass, I submitted the question to the seller who responded he and his family thought it was brass.

I found one in very similar condition at a pawn shop a month ago. It needs to be sent in to get some TLC.

$6.95 to Buck and the cost to ship it there is all it costs to have a knife that looks new sent back to you. Best deal in the world as far as I'm concerned:thumbup: Thanks Buck:D:D

Ok, here is the best answer I got. This is a quote of Joe Houser on an ebay auction for a 110 that he was showing

"As soon as the 110 went from the BUCK stamp to BUCK, U.S.A. the stamp was oriented so that you read it with the blade tip pointed down. In about 1972 Buck started putting the model number on the stamp and the first 110's with the model number kept the same orientation, like the knife in this auction. Buck soon decided that this did not look right so they turned the stamp around so that you read it with the blade tip pointed up, and thats how they are still stamped today."

So its just about the look
