4'X60" Grinder?

A friend has a really old, but working grinder that stands about five feet high. It takes 4x60" belts and I understand it was designed for grinding glass (unless he's kidding me). It's an old monster-straight vertical belt. He said if I order belts I could use it. I'm not sure its all that adaptable for grinding knives. And don't yet know the price of the belts. Do you guys think this is something I should do? Could sure use some advice here.

That's pretty wide for grinding. I used a 4x36 belt sander for a short period when I started out, but it was tough to grind real well on it. It can be done just more difficult. Those belts won't be cheap.

Pretty much what I think too, Scott. Just tempting, being free and all. But I think I am going to bite the bullet and buy one soon.
