5.11 Tactical promo knife

I'm thinking 'bout ordering a pair of 5.11 shorts through the NRA Gear catalog. Their price is definetely better than some of the competitors. Through 31 May, they are offering a free 5.11 logo folder with purchase of the shorts, claiming the value of the knife as $34.95.

The knife has the following specs according to the catalog
  • 3.5" blade
  • 8" open
  • 4" closed
  • 5 oz.
  • liner lock
  • 4042 Stainless steel
  • removeable clip
  • G-10 handle

I'm assuming that this is probably a cheap knife- the value is probably overstated. Got it. However, is it a halfway decent knife? Any idea who makes/ distributes that model? Are they any good.

And, what in the world is 4042 steel?

I got a free cap when I renewed my membership and it wasn't even advertised- guess I got lucky.
 
I got a free CD that I didn't even want.

Then I got a free reminder to pay for it if I wasn't gonna return it.

ive gotten a bunch of free stuff from 5.11. it is throw away type gear.

a bdu pocked organizer thing, an analog watch, and an action figure type guy dressed up in 5.11 gear with an m4.

cool promos, but i wouldnt bet my life on any of the free stuff.
 
Well I ordered a knife a few weeks back and got a free pair of shooting glasses ! clear lense , nothing worth writing home about but hey , it's free. :D

I'm sure the knife is at least a decent beater , toss it in your toolbox and maybe it'll help you on a 'rainy day'.
You can use it in lieu of your good knife for nasty tasks such as cleaning scat outta the soles on your shoes , etc.
 
I got a pair of free socks from 5.11 a while back. Still haven't figured out what makes them "tactical" though :confused:
 
I have this 5.11 knife and carry it regularly. It's an ok knife for what I need and it keeps it's edge ok. Fairly easy to sharpen too and the lockup is good.
