What's up, Guys? Does anyone have any experience with 5.11 tactical knives? Their XPRT folder in S30V is very interesting. I recently held one and the ergonomics are incredible.

I have 3 5.11's, the First Responder, Ten-Eight and Investigator, all 3 are stout, solid knives.

I've stopped buying their knives online and will only consider one if I can handle it first, because a 4th one I bought had what was clearly a manufacturer's defect (the threaded holes for the pocket clip screws on 3 of the 4 carry positions were so big the screws could not hold) and 5.11 completely refused to honor their warranty and fix or replace the knife.

I’ve had my 511 karambit for more than 3 years now. The only problem iv had is that the screws on the clip have loosen whit time.

I usually carry it in my front right pocket when I’m not carrying my glock, it’s a good all around blade.

I also have the 5.11 karambit, waved it myself and I love it, really solid knife. The S30V used seems to dull faster than the S30V blade on my ZT, just my opinion though.

Hey Edwood7, is that finger thing a kubaton?

Yes, that’s what I use it for; it’s made whit a very hard plastic. I bought it in a trading post up in Big Bear Lake. It’s not made for this purpose, but it excels at it, and people never imagine what I carry it for. I’m trying to make it in to a key chain, but the dam plastic is very hard, I need a power drill to make the hole.:grumpy:

I had a 5.11 tanto for a while. Did not use it much and have finally sold it - it is just not for me. Nothing wrong with the knife - good quality and value for the price. The serration was not that convenient for regular cutting tasks, the liner far too thin and jimpings have turned out sort of too much for me...
I think Tarani design is simply not my thing. That knife has helped me to find this out. ;)

I had a First Responder spear point for a while. It was a very well-made knife -- the earlier description of "stout" is right on the money. However, I ended up selling it without ever using it because I wasn't a fan of the partially serrated blade.

But if you like the design and ergos of the XPRT, I'd say go for it. Assuming 5.11 is having the XPRT made by the same factory that made the First Responder, the build quality should be very good.
