So I have lived with a 5.11 rush delivery for the past 3 years. It was my daily carry bag and brought a laptop, two tablets, plus the cords and cables for all plus my phone to work for over two years. Still looks and feels new.

But my new job will also require I bring some portable speakers too and honestly I just want a new bag after 3 yrs.

Have had my eye on the Hazard 4 switchback for a long time but could never pull the trigger. It was a bit more than $100 I paid for my 5.11.

Well a gently used one with an extra pocket, the removable dividers and a glow in the dark hazard 4 patch for pretty close to my $100 comfort zone showed up in the exchange here.

So the new bag arrived so what are my thoughts?

First off the Hazard 4 is made of 1000D nylon and the 5.11 is made of 1050D nylon. Doesn't seem like much but the 5.11 feels like its made of much thicker and stiffer material. Really overall the 5.11 Rush just feels better constructed.

I really like the size of the Switchback. There were a lot of times I was limited by what I could bring by the 5.11's size and layout. The switchback's more back pack design lends it more to carrying more gear. I also like that there is a grab handle on every side of the switchback. The rubber top handle is also more comfortable to hold onto when the bag is full compared to the fabric handle on the 5.11. Ones a messenger and the other a sling so its a push really on carrying comfort but I think if they were both heavily loaded the Switchback would be a little easier to carry just because of how the load is oriented.

Overall I like the switchbacks carry option and organization options and size. But I like the heavier material and construction of the 5.11. Honestly at $100 I'd be thrilled with either bag if it was my new bag. But I gotta say at $170+ a Hazard 4 switchback goes for new I'm pretty disappointed in the quality and stiffness of the material and construction. I mean the 5.11 feels like I could let a truck run it over and it would be fine. Not so much the Hazard 4. Now for what I paid I'm thrilled and happy with it. Until my next bout of bag envy anyway ;)
