5.5 CUDA Maxx questions..planning to buy

I probably wouldn't worry about it popping open in your pocket, since it isn't a full auto. For self defense i think a handle with more grip would be better than smooth steel, since your palms might get sweaty if you were to ever need it for self defense and the adrenaline was pumping.

However avoiding a situation where you would need to use a knife to defend yourself is best. And a good pair of running shoes would be better than a plain edge or serrated if you can take that route.

The bowie blade would probably be the better choice for an all 'round utility blade. And the 5.5 inch version would probably be less cumbersome than the 7, and fit your pockets better.

If anyone can help me answer a couple of question on the camillus CUDA Maxx, that would be great. I read a lot about this knife using the search function and my heart is set on this knife for EDC. I'm currently using a S&W extreme ops folding knife.

I enjoy mine daily :)

1.) Would a serrated edge be better than a plain edge in a self defense situation?

Only being partially serrated, I would opt for the plain edge personally.

2.) What's the difference between the stilleto, bowie, and dagger CUDA Maxx? Which one is best in a self defense situation?

Blade styles. I prefer the bowie style. 7.0 would be too large for EDC

3.) Where's the best place to buy a new CUDA Maxx?

You could check OneStopKnifeShop or TGB&U portion of the forums

4.) Would it be too big to fit in my jeans pocket for EDC? and what about it accidently opening up because of the quick flik design?

Not to big for most jean pockets and never had the quick flik ever open in mine before. Only time it may happen is inserting into pocket and applying pressure to flipper. I've seen that happen before.

5.)What other knife would you recommend over the CUDA Maxx?
Any input or advice on this particular knife is appreciated. Thanks.

There are other knives out there that would meet your qualifications just as well, but if your heart is set on it, go for it!!! It's a wonderful EDC IMO and works EXTREMELY well as a steak knife (When you are descrete ;) ) in restaurants that have dull knives. (another story)

Hope this helps

Personally I think this is one if not the, best folding fighter ever made. To answer your questions, I think plain edge bowie in the 5.5 size. As far as carry in jeans, depends on your size and the sort of jeans you wear and how you wear them. In my straight leg 501s this knife isn't especially comfy or discreet but in a pair of carharts its no problem. I would strongly consider talking to Darrel Ralph about getting the clip switched to tip up deep carry for use as an edc. This puts more of the knife in your pocket and also allows the flippers to be used to "wave" the knife open.
can't help ya regarding where to buy though I would recommend keeping an eye on the exchange forums here as they show up frequently. If this is going to be your edc knife then I would also recommend carrying a small SAK or other less awe (fear) inspiring knife for cleaning your nails and opening envelopes.

enjoy it its an awesome knife.

thanks..right now, it looks like i'm going to choose the plain edge bowie CUDA MAxx over the stileto and partially serrated edge.

1. yes, because the plain edge will usually require a slicing motion to cut, whereas the serrations will bite in, not to mention leave a much more painful cut

2. bowie blade, because the dagger, although cool, looks like it may break if the tip impacts something.

3. knifeworks.com, newgraham.com

4. depends on the keans you wear

5. benchmade 710m spyderco karambit

i would highly recommend AGAINST buying the cuda maxx for SD purposes unelss you live in a state where you are SURE it is legal to carry. This is because the majority of the 50 states do not allow 5.5" folders to be carried.

another thing you want to consider is that the cuda maxx handle is very smooth - which means it may come out of your hand if not gripped very tightly.

i very much prefer the plain edge stilleto version for all uses, the best price i have found is newgraham, its illegal a lot of places but NOT Tx, if ya replace the std clip w/a low profile clip it carries better imho, even w/the stock clip the knife carries fine for a 5.5" blade knife, no problem there, lots of knives i prefer for edc (ie spyderco Ti ATR, crawford perfigo, emerson CQC8, BM axis AFCK and skirmish) but the maxx is a good edc imho, i carry my ralph version occasionally (std 5.5 and a talonite SP 4").
