A number of people asked if I could make a smaller version of my 8" OAL Glacier - here it is.

Javelina: 01 tool steel, 5.5" OAL. . Scandi bevel blued 2.25" x 1" x 1/8" blade. Bead blast G10 scales, nickle silver pin, flared stainless lanyard tube. Very handy three finger utility knife. I will probably use a 20 lpi checkering file just forward of where the G10 stops on the next one.

Very nice, looks like a very functional design! great work.

Bush Monkey, I like it, nice and clean... how did you get the marker mark so deep in the steel? and what type of Bluing method did you use? It is nice and dark!

Thank you all for looking and commenting.

Ryan W,

I bead blasted before cold bluing on this one - no etch. The maker's mark: IMG_1063_op_776x1034.jpg is a matter of pressure - 12 tons worth.

The bead blast preparation seems to increase the effectiveness of the bluing solution. It will show signs of wear with use. The etching (I do) is a much more durable and deeper "finish".

The knife looks great! How does bluing hold up to use?

I REALLY like those clean handles. The round butt with the flared tubing just looks great. Is the handle tapered at all, or straight in profile? So slick.

Thank you. It's slab sided and parallel. Works better for my clients who lack opposable thumbs.

This is the 8" big brother:

Howdy Monkey Man, have you considered adding another flared tubing for lashing capabilities, or just use that front bolt spot? Just a thought, looks good Monkey Man i have a similar design that is very nice in the silver backs hand.

Love that mark. Gotta find out more about the stamp.

Thank you again for your comments. No monkey business here, just pressure and the unforgiving rigidity of 1" steel plate. The stamp is from http://www.steelhandstamps.com/index.html and I use it like this:

It's really a very simple operation that is both Marine and Monkey proof (so far).
