I'm looking for a 5-6" fixed blade for EDC belt carry. It will be for general utility use and as a defensive blade. I don't want anything too heavy and I've got heavy duty blades for harder outdoors use.

It needs to be well suited to slashing and stabbing as well as general use. It doesn't need to be a fancy steel and can be carbon or stainless.

I'd really like a low ride leather sheath like a Kabar, but that seems difficult to find so I'll probably have to get a different sheath regardless of the knife.

I got a $75 gift card for Christmas so I'd like to keep it in that range.

The two I'm considering so far are the Becker BK 15 and the Benchmade CSK II.

Any other suggestions?

ETA:No tantos and no 420 steel.

I've had my eye on the Boker Ginger Fighter. It is a little over your price range but looks to a cool knife.

It's a little short at 4.3" blade, but check out the Mora Bushcraft Black. You can pick it up for about $40. Very light, good handle, and a lot of knife for your money.

Check out the Scrap Yard 511. It's just a scosh outside your price range but you get sooooo much! Also, the 3/16" thick blade might be a little lighter than a 1/4" thick blade like the BK2 or the ESEE 5 and it has a thinner profile for additional weight savings. I'd love to see one ground to a bowie. That would again help with weight and make it more stabby.

Something like this perhaps?

You'll be the talk of the town in your secret underground knife fighting club.

Ask nice and Kratos may even let you borrow his.

bahaha nice.
The psychological reaction of any man, when he first takes the smatchet in his hand, is full justification for its recommendation as a fighting weapon. He will immediately register all the essential qualities of a good soldier-confidence, determination, and aggressiveness.

You obviously need a smatchet. Nothing else will do.

Ideally suited to stabbing and slashing!

You can pick up a new Gryphon M30 for $75 new without a sheath or $99.99 with a sheath. These are outstanding knives and have the same blade as the Meyerco and Camillus CQB1. I own 2 Gryphons, 2 Camillus CQB1, and 1 Meyerco CQB1. As you can tell I love the design and it is a great utility knife for just about everything except battoning (blade edge and spine too thin) and I use them regularly for food preparation and BBQ's. The Camillus (no longer made) and the Meyerco will cost you two to three times the cost of the Gryphon which is essentially the same knife. In fact, I like the grip on the Gryphon better than the other two. The Gryphon's I have come with a Spec Ops sheath that fits them perfectly for normal belt carry. I have also had kydex IWB sheaths made for these Gryphons that are the second to none and that complement this light weight knife beautifully. If you go that way, email me and I will provide the name of my sheathmaker.

You could use and I'm being serious here...a Mora. Those plastic sheaths they come with have a great clip. I have carried mine several times with the knife IWB. It almost completely hides in the pants and only about a half inch shows of the bottom handle. The grippy texture makes it surprisingly easy to grab and if your planning to use it as a self defense knife. It will already be in the down, blade forward position for defensive guarding and palm strike stabbing. I dont carry mine with self defense in mind (but would if its all I had). It was 13 bucks from amazon. ALso I haven seem many knifes of that size you can hide so well IWB unless someone made a custom sheath for another knife.
Or how about a emerson opening knife instead of a fixed blade? they open once you pull from the pocket and conceal way better than any fixed blade.

I made something similar when I was like 9.
Heavy duty zip ties and duck tape.
Enter the Dragon (is) was the ultimate movie and all the kids were trying to one-up Bruce Lee.

Has anyone ever spine whacked a mora? I think there is like a whole 1/4 inch of tang on those things.

I'm not sure about his club, but in my secret underground knife fighting club Gingers are pretty rare; I wouldn't want to invest in such a specialized tool unless I knew I would be fighting Gingers. ;)

Besides Mora and Marttiini, there are two more knives for you to consider. Look at the KaBar Mark 1 Navy Knife with Kraton handle. They can be found for as little as $46 shipped. The other is the SOG NW Ranger. Poor sheath but quite the knife for around $56. Both knives have 5.2" blades.

+1
If you get a strong lockback, maybe a Cold Steel AK-47 you could still get a sheath made for it in the open position if you had to carry it that way.
