Do you think 5" folder is too large to use?
I know only ColdSteel produces 5" folder.
I want 5" tacticul folder, for exanple,Microtech USSOCOM and Chris Reeve Sebenza with 5" blade.
For daily use, 5" is usual size I feel.
And as it is folder, handle must enlarge 1" too.As, it is like 6" fixed blade knife.

I know people who use large folders on a regular basis. The primary reason they carry them is that they send off less of a weapon vibe than fixed blades. Larger blades tend to get harder use than smaller ones (chopping and the like) so as a folder increases in size the lock needs to scale up in strength and security as well. However there are lots of locks that are currently very overbuilt for the popular 3-4" folders.

Cliff,

Thank you,I know folder can't endure hard use expected for large blade.
But, I think if it is used not so hard,5"blade is very good size for autdoor cooking, skinning, digging, and fighting.

Oh, yes, I don't think 5" is too large IF the lock is appropriately built.

Keep in mind that, in many states, laws limit carry of larger folders. The cut-off is often 4", which is why you see a lot of folders right at 4".

I had a CS VG for awhile (6" blade) that I used mostly in the kitchen. After I ground the serrations off I carried it for awhile and liked the slicing power mostly on vegetation. I gave it to my brother awhile ago and it has held up fine. The only problem is that there is now some lateral play probably because he does a fair amount of chopping with it.
