This has been a long time coming. We originally filmed this late last summer with the intent to transcribe it in a timely fashion. As is always the case with Uncle E, he always gives you way more than you could ever ask for. This might be our longest 5 From The Grinder ever. I should have gotten to this a while ago, but the wait is finally over.

Huge pleasure talking to Ethan about this. You guys and gals will enjoy this!

Great interview. I really like his quote "you want something that works, and fits, and makes your eye happy every time you get it out." I enjoy using all of my Becker knifes but when I slide a BK4 Machax , BK5 Magnum Camp or especially a BK1 Brute from the sheath I can cant help but grin like a Cheshire cat.

Great interview Dave!
I always enjoy your stuff.
I could listen to Ethan talk for hours and hours. Always enjoyable.
Thanks for posting the link!

Wonderfully done, a great read!

Such a good read. Loved his insight on the people who have influenced him. And the influences on the 16. Thank you so much for sharing this!

...now I have to dig out my Vic rucksack and give it some love...

Thank you guys. Now you see why it took me so long to get around to transcribing it lol! I have about 40 minutes of raw recording that I pulled all of this from.

As those who have met the man can attest, Mr. Becker is a joy to be around and listen to. Not everyone is lucky enough to have had that opportunity, so this interview is a little slice of that at least! Happy to share it.

That smile on his face speaks volumes :)

What an awesome piece!

That line about “ergonomics” being “one of the most horribly overused and abused modern terms” could not be more true.

Great read. Thanks a lot!

I want a t-shirt with this on it:
“If you go over 30-degrees when you’re bending a knife blade… you should stop! [laughs] It’s like, if you’re batonning things… if it’s hard to baton… burn it! Baton something else for the kindling. Don’t wear yourself out being stupid.”

Excellent write up! Funny thing about interviewing or talking with Ethan, he requires minimal prompting.
