I collect pocket knives because I like them, I don't even use most of them. When it comes to fix blades I only want users and I only have a BK9 and no other fix blades. I find this knife very useful around the yard and for chopping and splitting fire wood. What I want next is a fixed blade in bowie style with a hollow grind in S30V, 154CM, AST-34 or BG-42 steel at about a 5 inch blade. Cost up to $500 and I would like it to be a production knife just in case I want more for my friends. Knife will be used as a hunting, fishing, camping, hiking knife.

What would anyone suggest?

I meant to post this in the Blade Discussion Forum, perhaps a moderator could move it for me.

i would suggest a 5" ka-bar usmc knife......$50?

i like carbon steel for fixed blades instead of stainless.....much more lateral strength and not as brittle.........doesnt take much care to keep a carbon rust free....although they can stain.......but thsat just adds character to the knife

in stainless though, i would look at bob dozier knives

Y'know, I have been meaning to say how much I like ole rs422. Yep, can't think of a better guy than rs422.

REALLY!

:) :D

I need to get some worthy fixed blades too, my Camillus USMC serrated and CS Recon Tanto are junk. I'm looking at the Trailmaster from CS, and any fixed blades from Blackjack. Very close to buying the Tigershark from SOG. With that kind of money, why not get two?

Thanks everyone, I have been looking at all the suggestions and so far I like the SOG Trident best:

Features
- 6.25" AUS8 steel blade.
- Micarta handles.
- Leather sheath.

I just don't like the steel it is made of, also does anyone own this knife, if so is it a hollow grind?

Still looking.

I'd go with a Blackjack Grunt - alot of knife in a 5 1/2" blade package - would be great for a "hunting, fishing, camping, hiking knife". It is AUS8 but well tempered & well designed.

I would pick the Fallkniven. GREAT VG10 steel.

I had a SOG Seal 2000. Didn't like the steel.

If it didn't HAVE to be "Bowie" pattern, I'd look at the Greco Scagel. Especially now that he makes a BIG one.

Mine is the medium and it is "Bowie-ish" enough for me. I would sure hate to fight against it. And as a skinner or slicer, it is nonpareil.

The Fallkniven NL4 would also be a good choice.

Blade is 5 1/8" VG10

So far this is the knife I like best, V10 is a great steel from what I have read and heard and I would like to have a blade in it.

What I like about this knife is:

The size and shape of the blade and handle.

The quillon or gard is small enough on the back to get my thumb or index finger on the back of the blade for better control.

Top quality steel.

Now all I want is one in a hollow grind!

Yep it is! If you want a worker DO NOT choose the Trident!! I would also go for a Fallkniven NL 3 or 4 or maybe an A1.

My mistake, I posted it in the wrong place.

I like the CR fixed blades a lot but I want one in stainless.
So far I am looking at the Fallkniven NL4, it comes closes to what I want, I really like the shape of it.

Thanks for everyones replies, they have helped a lot.

You should look at the benchmade red class fixed blades.. There's a 4.5 inch drop point http://benchmade.com/products/product_detail.aspx?model=10505 in 440C, retails around $40 bucks.

Or look at the Becker Campanion or whatever it is.

I like 10505 Rant a lot and I decided to get one because it is Benchmade and it is very inexpensive and I like the style of it, drop points are nice.

But I am also going to get the Fallkniven NL4.

And I said I would only by one! I should have known better.
