5 inch MKII (USMC)

Ontario 499 Pilot Survival Knife. 5" blade, stacked lather handle, saber ground, 1095 and very affordable.

That Ontario Pilots Survival Knife slipped my mind. It would be a good choice. Here's a picture of mine.

OcnLogan mentioned the Blackjack #5. I have a #7 which is pretty much the same knife with a 7" blade, comparable to a full size kabar. I like it so much more than my kabar it isn't even a comparison, ymmv. You might think of the knife it's an homage to (the Randall 1-7, I believe) as being a more refined and sorted out kabar. I'd have to believe the Blackjack #5 would be similar to my #7, just smaller.

Having never owned one, its good to hear thats how you feel about yours. Its kind of what I figured it would be like, but its always good to know :).

I mean, there are a fair number of differences (no fuller, the handle isn't grooved, blade steel, etc). But I do find it to be overall in the same aesthetic class/genre as the USMC.

Very true. It's also made from thicker stock and the grind is convex instead of flat sabre. My #7 is a commando handle variant, which I like quite lot, but that's a completely individual thing. I just thought since exactly what you're looking for seems unavailable outside of a custom, you may want info on what might start to approach it.
