It's just my geuss but do you think I'm far off if I think that 5% of us more hardcore knife guys own 90% of the knives in this country, if you exclude household stuff(kitchen & butter knifes etc.)?

It just seems that I don't know to many people personally that are into knives, but in a forum like this everyone has dozens or even hundreds of knives.

Nope. I think you're way off. The knife companies would go out of business in a hurry if 90% of their sales depended on knife nuts. Not enough of us.

I think you are probably way off as well. Most knives are sold to people that just want to have something in their pocket to do daily chores. Even when it comes to high quality knives, I know lot's of hunters, fishermen, police, firemen, paramedics, etc. that own one or more. Only a few of these people are knife knuts. The rest just appreciate high quality tools.

Edited to use a more appropriate word.

Grapevine your probably right but I bet that it would be true if you counted only knives over a certain price, $50, $75, $100 maybe. That would offset all the $2 gas station, chinese specials.

As few knife owners as I know, there are not many that care enough to spend much on a blade let alone on a few dozen. But they're not knife nuts.

Maybe 30% own 60% is closer. It's not important, it's just something I was thinking about.:D

I think the higher the pricepoint on a given knife model goes the more likely it is that most of them are in collections or the hands of knife nuts as opposed to the average Joe.
Most people I know think that paying over $100.00 for a knife is pure insanity while many if not most of us pay that on a fairly regular basis.

If you are talking Busse knives, you may be right. Darned Skunks anyway.

Sorry, just pouting about a missed opportunity. Don't mind me.

There is probably some kind of scale that relates to that. 60% of knives = $10 or less, 30% = $100 or less, and bla bla bla.

I know that I started out with cheap knives, then moved to ok, and am now on the hard stuff - Mayos and the like!
