Bussians,

It seems like more than one person has pondered which of the Basic line to get for their first, maybe only, Busse knife (I am in this crowd).

Would anyone help us by posting pictures of the models that allow for a side-by-side comparison of the #5, $#7, and maybe #9 models? Or refer us to some website that has side by side pictures? When shopping, I have only encountered one picture at at time, and they have differently scaled sizes.

One cannot tell the relative handle size or proportions by looking at the separate pictures.

Thanks in advance.

Hi..

To be quite honest the BB7 is my favorite of the Basic line...

Great knife in my opinion..

I'll second Normark.
I bought a Basic 5 and loved it. Truly a wonderful knife. It has no peers in it's size catgory.
I held off for a loooong time in getting a Basic 7. I finally broke down, bought one on close-out, and lo and behold, this is my favorite fixed blade. Period. It is hard to beat this bad boy for the price. Frankly, I don't think it can be done.
Get hold of a Basic 7 and you have the best production knife in it's size category in the world. Very impressive performance.
Oops! Sorry about the mini-ramble.
I'ma really likin' these knives!

Geode,

Another vote for the Basic #7 as your first or, especially, only Busse knife. Oh, by the way, it's your "only Busse knife" only until you get the next one.

Without knowing what kind of work you'll be doing with the blade, I'd recommend the Basic #7 as a good all-around blade. It's big enough to chop, yet not too big for finer cutting chores, especially if you enlarge the choil to accept your finger. It's not overly large to make it your daily carry. Also, depending on the size of your hands, the #7 has a slightly larger handle than the #5.

If you haven't done so already, I highly recommend going to a show where Team Busse has a table and handle both the knives you're considering. Taking a few minutes to do a "hands-on A-to-B comparison" will tell you volumes about which one your hand likes better.

The #7 is pretty comfortable as an IWB carry in one of Normark's sheaths. (Love those sheaths!!

) Vis-a-vis the #5, I find a 7" blade offers a lot more versatility and not a lot more inconvenience in the carry. This is especially the case since I always have a SAK in my pocket for smaller cutting chores.

On another thread, I posted that the Basic #7 is the one Busse blade I'd choose over all others for a true survival situation. That should tell you what I think of the blade.

I had frimly decided that I was only going to have One Busse knife...

That was two months ago; now I have three, another on order, amd more when the family budget allows.

The B-7 is a great one to start with... but it will be only the start.

If it is your only one, I'd say the 7. The 9 is great if you want a BIG knife to really chop and destroy things! I would probably use the 5 for concealed defensive carry, since 5 1/2" is the limit for that in my area. All around, the 7 is more versatile then the 9 or the 5.
