Well it felt like I won something when my 5.1 came in the mail. USPS said it was out for delivery and I catch the postman at my mail box, hey you have a package for me? No he replied . Huh wth ? It said its on the way ? Then he checks in the back and there it is ! He was going to drive away! And I waited all day.

Any who, on to my initial impression review

So I had planned on doing a review between my Busse ASH BG and my 5.1 as my end all be all blade.

Well there is really no comparison as they are completely different. The Busse is like a 1960's muscle car and the 5.1 is like a 2015 Ferrai .

The ASH and really any other Busse is built like a tank. Thick, beefy and mean. The cutting edge is quite thick and generally needs to be re profiled.

The 5.1 is cleeeeeeaaann and crisp. The quality of work and attention to detail is amazing every bevel, corner and edge is near perfect. It is very pretty. Right away I can tell it will slice. It is just way more refined than most knives I own. Plus the experience of opening the box is unmatched. It really felt like a present rather than a delivery. The presentation and all the goodies that came with it really make you feel that you purchased the right brand of knives.. I did have one let down, I was expecting a FDE sheath and a OD one came with it. I looked at my order sheet and it did say OD, I ordered on my iPad so when I scrolled I must have selected of OD green.

After looking over both knives I have realized that there is no perfect knife , but my 5.1 is going to be my main back pack blade. If I know destruction or the apocalypse is coming my ASH and Team Gemini are going to be on my side, with the 5.1 in my pack.

It will be my MasterCard of knives

I am now going to get GSO 10 !!! Or 12

So cool!!! Congratulations on the 5.1! I'm glad you took the time to do a little write up with your first impressions. It's so easy to post a pic and leave it at that, but it is really fun to hear the story and impressions. You have great taste in great blades.

I hope posts like yours help get Ellie and Guy through the days when they feel like things are not in their favor

Envy!!!!

I have a similar collection and have been planning to do pretty much the same thing you are doing. I am excited to come up with the best combination of large, medium and small knives to take out into the wilds. I have a feeling it's not going to be easy! The 5.1 looks so refined.

I am surprised looking at the size comparison to the TGBG. I have one so it gives me a good reference point. The 5.1 blade is a little bigger/wider than I was imagining. I like!!!

I hope this is the week!

Thanks for sharing!!

Congrats man, that comparison picture is all kinds of good. Some nice steel there

Nice knife!
While I respect what busse puts out, I haven't found one that really hooks me.

I think the 5.1 is going to be a great all around knife, I can't really see any other blade taking its place. Not too small and not too big, just right , like the three bears.

I did go a little crazy on the Busse train, easy to do when they only charge a 1$. I am pondering selling the ASH2 for a GSO 10. The other awesome part lab out SK is they come with a really nice sheath. Your basically buying the knife for 40-60$ less. While I have had the ASH for a while I don't have a sheath, I can put the 5.1 in my bag right now!!!!!!!

As you can see my other blades are about 4" in length, too small for a main go-to blade.

That 5.1 looks amazing..... I miss the preorder because I'm relatively brand new to this forum. How could I get 5.1 now? The exchange?

Honestly I don't see them come up too often, though as more are delivered that's definitely a possibility. Or you can get it straight from Survive once regular ordering starts up, which - as of the last update - was going to be Monday the 15th. There will only be a few available though so you'll have to be quick on the trigger. Make sure you know exactly what handle/sheath you want ahead of time. If you do miss out, they're planning on trying to have some available every week or so. The nice thing about Monday ordering is that those blades are ready and they should be able to get them out to you in the same week as your order.

So monday the 15th I guess I'll be doing a lot of refreshing on S!K website. Is there any kind of annoucement on the forums or do I just furiously smash the page reload button until see what I'm looming for?

I'm not sure all the details either. What time will they post, and actually be available for ordering, being my biggest question. I'd figure Ellie will give us more details later in the week or this weekend. There's supposed to be Necker IIs available (seconds) here soon also (Monday also??). That's a great little EDC or neck knife and if you look at the schedule there's quite a few knives (time) between now and the next run of those.

You're at the right time to poach one quick somewhere. From my past experience, when the runs start coming out en masse, there will be someone who for one reason or other decides to sell. Some guys buy a couple and then keep the one they like best, etc.

I would:

-Keep an eye on the newsletter and this forum for the Monday announcements. Ellie has already said that the Monday sales will be listed at different times during the day or night so that worldwide customers have a shot.

-Troll the Production Fixed Blade forum on here hard. There is usually one or two S!Ks a week that sell, although it has been a long time since I saw a 5.1 come up. That will change when these hit.

-Figure out what the guys got going on in the facebook group. I can't help with that, I'm not on facebook, but from the accounts I've read here, you can get in on some buys.

-Guy posts a lot on Instagram. Once again, I'm not a user, but you will see a lot more announcements and talk from Guy there than here.

And like AAA3.14 said, have your choices figured out for a quick pounce. Good luck man, and if I haven't said it yet, welcome to the forum.

Wow, Hard Knocks. Thank you for that! That is a lot of information! Trolling the exchange is how I ended up with my 4.1. haven't seen a new 5.1 yet but I will definitely be hunting for one on there. Thnks again for the advice!

HK a ton of good advice, something i just figured out as well, if you use tapatalk on your phone, you can "follow" the fixed blade sales forum and when a new post happens get an alert on your phone. it might be a bit annoying, but there aren't a ton of new daily threads so if you are truly wanting first crack, it might be a good way to do it?

Thanks for the second picture there bubbaskyjacker. Seeing a "real" pic in hand really hammers home how perfect the size is on this thing for my purposes. (Large hunting knife)
This along with my 4.1 and my BRK Ultralight Bushcrafter complete the perfect "trifecta" of hunting blades, imo.

My long-trusted Fallkniven F1 has been relegated to a distant 4-5th string backup. Never thought I'd see the day for that!
