5 year old caught his first fish!

So I finally got off my duff and went and got some fishing poles for the family.

My 5 year old has been fishing a few times, but he has never caught anything. I have caught a 19 inch cut throat and the wife caught a huge 23 inch cut throat on one trip, and the next year at the same lake I caught a smaller cut throat.


Took my son down to the lake the other day, and he caught a small mouth bass.

He was so excited!

we caught it on a white wiggle tailed grub with 1/2 a worm on the hook. I was actually expecting to catch perch based on what we were using. The bass were smart!

They were only going after the bait if the worm extended past the end of the tail of the lure. Then they would steal the end of the worm. We had about 3 or four that we thought were on the hook, but they were just taking the worm up to the back of the hook. They would not bite if the worm was not a bit longer than the lure!

That spot gets fished a ton. My older brother and his friend went and caught 53 perch the first day, and the second day 17 or so.

This is what we caught the first time we went fishing with him a few years ago. A bit more exciting size wise, but he did not catch them, so not near as fun for him.

Second time we only caught one fish (in the same place, one year later)

all we caught (only fished for 2 hours). We finally found a spot they were biting, and had to pull out right then. I had one nibbling, so did the wife, and the Brother in law had one almost in the boat but it spit out the hook before we could net it.

After we put the fish in the bucket, it was flopping. He asked if the fish was going to die. I said yes.

He said "that fish is lonely......he misses his mommy fish................lets catch her too!"

He plays Cabela's Dangerous Hunting game on PS3. We like to go watch deer etc on drives. He told my wife "we need to shoot those deer." She asked him why, and he said "to stop them from eating the grass"

Awesome - My step-daughter and I do mostly surf fishing, since she does not like the boat fishing as much.

But it is always fun to see their face when they catch one.
